... I'd always assumed from this comment that Lady R was a tenant of Sir Walter's, but you've raised the doubt,now, which is reinforced by the consideration that Sir Russell was rich; why would he endure being a tenant even of a baronet?

But I see that my original thought is the more popular, and Rae has made a telling comment in its favor. Now I'm inclined to swing back to the popular view.
