Thank you for the descriptions and the links! These are not insubstantial cottages in the least. I would say that the description of Uppercross Cottage "with its viranda, French windows, and other prettinesses," makes it sound just as charming. How sad that Mary Musgrove is unlikely ever to value it, as it is tainted with once having been a farmhouse, and has not "considerable aspect and premises of the Great House."

It makes me shiver to think how insupportable Mary will become once she is the Mistress of that place!
