So "demean" is now pejorative, but 200 years ago it was closely tied to "demeanor", which still has the original meaning.

Recall the discovery (at least, for me) in the P&P group read last year of "develop" having diverged from its original close attachment to "envelop" (in the description of Mrs. Bennet's mind, ch. 1).

This almost as much fun as reading Austen's prose!

Well, I guess almost is overstating it :-). But it is a lot of fun.

Aww! I see we've lost the cute little quotation graphics. Will they be coming back?
