in consequence of the missive, Lady Russell and Mrs. Clay, penned by Adele W
was a thoughtful lady and could figure things out beyond the superficial. "She was a woman rather of sound than of quick abilities," (2)
I believe Mrs. Clay's flattery was seen as supericial by Elizabeth.
"Elizabeth could not conceive how such an absurd suspicion should occur to her; and indignantly answered for each party's perfectly knowing their situation." (5)
True to form, Elizabeth turns the idea of 'danger' around and declares that it is Mrs. Clay who is safe. (Another put-down to Anne.)
