Are you new?

The use of "office" to mean a duty is still an active definition and one that I have read in contemporary texts. The OED's third definition of office is "That which one ought to or has to do in the way of service; that which is required or expected." And I've linked the Merriam-Webster definition below. You'll see that #4 is the same usage.
