Lady Dalrymple is the widow of an 'Irish' Viscount   Written by Rae (11/1/2008 6:37 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Were the Irish well accepted in our area?, penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

The 'Irish' aristocracy were more English than they were Irish, and I am sure that when she says 'Irish' of the fine young man she is looking at she means Anglo-Irish like herself.

There is also a JA joke in making her Anglo-Irish, rather like making the limit of Mary's fears a baronetcy for Wentworth: the Anglo-Irish aristocracy were very much the junior partners of the English aristocracy.
