Are you new?

Thomas Wentworth, the Earl of Strafford, was the Lord Deputy of Ireland. Remember in Ch. 3 when they're talking about the curate Wentworth, Sir Walter says:

" Mr. Wentworth was nobody, I remember: quite unconnected; nothing to do with the Strafford family. One wonders how the names of many of our nobility become so common."

So, Lady Dalrymple, especially being Irish, likely leapt to that Wentworth/Irish connection, so this may be what she was thinking.
