I have my doubts   Written by Patricia P (10/31/2008 1:16 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mrs Clay's future - a doubtful point., penned by Rachel G
Are you new?

I have trouble reconciling Mr Elliot's nature with marriage with Mrs. Clay no matter what JA hints at. She would be a drag on him socially due to her now checkered past..a wife that you cant take into society since many people would not have her in their homes. I think Sir William is going to want to enjoy all that status and money can bring and it is going to take a lot of schmoozing for Mrs Clay to over come that. He has gotten her away from Sir Walter, will enjoy her accomplishments and dump her back at her father's. The man who cant be bothered to at least turn Mrs Smiths problems over to someone who can help her is not going to marry Mrs Clay.
