that Mary is fixated with anyone being a baronet.

She can only envisage that being elevated to the baronetcy is the ultimate earthly reward .

The joke is that she never considers that Wentworth might do something stunning which would raise him to the dizzy heights of baron, or viscount or an earl or a marquess or even a duke.

She has the Elliot pride and the Elliot myopia. She can only envisage that a baronetcy would be the highest honour to which Captain Wentworth might aspire....
