Moni's post on the future of Kellynch Hall made me think of this. Supposing Elizabeth never finds an acceptable husband, what is likely to happen to her? I'm sure that Anne, CW, and even Charles Musgrove would do their duty by her when her father died, and that CW, who could do so much for his wife's friend, would certainly not leave his SIL to starve in the hedgerows, no matter how little he liked her, but would he (perhaps with Charles Musgrove's help) really have enough money to provide a separate residence for her? I'm convinced that none of them (including LR) would want Elizabeth living under the same roof with them - in fact, the thought of Mary and a discontented Elizabeth living even within walking distance of each other makes me shudder!
The other option I can see is Elizabeth's marital expectations eventually coming down with a jerk, and her marrying someone like Mr. Hurst, though hopefully with more money. What do you all think?
