but most of the men who were newly created hereditary "sirs" were elevated to that rank from the army (rewards for service in the Napoleonic Wars) But there was one naval chap who was created a baronet in 1814:

One of the few men of the navy raised to the rank( of Baronet-JW) around the time of composition and publication of the novel was Sir William Hoste, created 21st September 1814 for his "distinguished zeal" shown as Senior -Officer of four frigates. See Debretts Baronetage of England (1824) vol, 2 page 1190

So, if Wentworth were to distinguish himself in action-there was just the possibility that Mary's snobbish fears might be realised.
