One of the things I've come to appreciate about Persuasion during this GR is the way the little details count on several levels. In this case one brief comment gives us both a visual description of two characters and an insight into their attitudes and "ways of being".

I had not realised before how densely packed the text is. There is so much to find if you carefully pick it apart.
