Perhaps not conventionally pretty   Written by Tessa (10/29/2008 11:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mrs Clay thought handsome..., penned by Moni
Are you new?

Maybe she was not conventionally pretty by Sir Walter and Elizabeth's demanding standards, but it sounds as if she could make herself attractive. She sounds as if she can charm people.

If she set out to charm Mr. Elliot and he set out to charm her, is there any wonder that they fell for one and other.

I find it very amusing that, when denied Ann, who he found most attractive, Mr. Elliot turns not to her sister, through whom he could actually achieve his original intentions, but to poor, plausible Mrs. Clay.

Mrs. Clay, though not pretty, is attractive. Elizabeth, though as handsome and blooming as ever, never attracts him.
