I was thinking about the sort of weakness he might be referring to and perhaps his weakness:


1) with Louisa was of not being able to persuade her not to jump; and
2) towards Anne is harder, but perhaps it's that he succumbed to his feelings of anger and resentment and didn't renew their engagement as soon as he had enough money (eg two years after).
