I don't understand Mrs. Clay   Written by Julie Rae (10/29/2008 12:50 p.m.)
Are you new?

This is the 2nd time I have read Persuasion, so I do understand most of the charachters better, but not Mrs. Clay.

Did I miss it somewhere in the book that says where she cmae from and how she came to be with Sir Walter and Elizabeth? To me, she seems more as a governess who never went away from the family, and now they can't seem to part with her because she has always just been there, like a lamp.

I did read the post about Mrs. Clay wanting to live in the bubble of Sir Walter and Elizabeth, which was helpful.
I know she wants to get Sir Walter to marry her, but after hanging around for so long, why doesn't she see that he truly has no interest?
