Is Anne less than sensible in refusing -- or being unable -- to get over Wentworth? I do find it interesting that, in S&S, JA (through Marianne) mercilessly mocks the idea that there can be no second attachments, while in Persuasion, the two most admirable characters never get over their first attachment -- and the two characters who rapidly transfer their affections (Louisa and Benwick) are, I would argue, portrayed as just a teensy bit lightweight for so doing. Maybe JA got more romantic as she aged. . .
