#2) I thought that CW had really loved Anne when they were first engaged, which was why the break-up was hard on both of them and why he confessed in the letter that he had loved no one else. I was expecting that because had had loved her, that he had seen her "with the eyes of love" as you put it even way back when.

I guess I'm not getting this :-) :-) :-)
