from CW's friends. I guess we can take them as general representatives of the social set, what was thought of the family. I guess we can trust Anne is delicate, and pretty, agree. The way they compare Anne and her sister is probably sound, as it's said in a balanced way.

Did this part of social conversation act as a "hurry up you might lose her" to the Captain, or have I got this wrong? Did this spur him on to talk more to Anne?

If this is so, then Mr Elliot must've been at least good-looking and agreeable enough to be seen as competition, and we know how good looking the Captain is described as, by Lady Dalrymple later! LOL.
