I noticed this earlier   Written by CarolTS (10/27/2008 9:32 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ch 19: Why did these strangers call her Anne and not Miss Elliot?, penned by JanELT
Are you new?

She is, indeed, Miss Anne Elliot when in company with her sister, or simply Miss Anne. But, what I found starnge, was that at Uppercross she's referred to as Miss Anne even without Elizabeth being in the area (as she's already in Bath). Perhaps the formal addresses had started to fade at this point in history?
