that Benwick was desiring to visit Anne personally. I'm not sure he would have worked up the spirit to do it - but I think Charles' idea that he originally thought Anne was living close by was what got him to say in the first place that he was coming. And then he started spending time with Louisa and reading to her.

Anne herself thought this after reading Mary's letter.
