For me, one of the pleasant things about JA's novels is that for her heroines, love and respect seem to go hand in hand (no falling head over heels for a man she *knows* is a blackguard!). For both Anne and her creator, I believe sincerity is a *moral* virtue; therefore, Anne cannot love a man who does not possess it.
