In ch.16 The Bath paper one morning announced the arrival of the Dowager Viscountess Dalrymple, and her daughter, the Honourable Miss Carteret;

Besides asking myself what exactly a Viscountess is I wondered why the Lady and her daughter have different names. As her daughter is called "Miss" she doesn´t seem to be married. But why isn´t she called "Miss Dalrymple" instead?

Any answers will be very much appreciated.
