Turning point for *Capt W*, then? And shades of Northanger Abbey   Written by Tom P2 (10/21/2008 4:44 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, How did Anne have a change of heart here?, penned by JanELT
Are you new?

The words "She thought it could scarcely escape him to feel that ..." seem to endow the turning point on Captain Wentworth - assuming Anne's right - rather than on Anne herself.

If only Mr Tilney could have breezed in earlier and buttonholed Captain Wentworth and explained to him:

NA ch16>

"To be always firm must be to be often obstinate. When properly to relax is the trial of judgment"

...then Persuasion might have been a much shorter book. No... hold on... that would have been a pity. ;-)
