I agree wholeheartedly with you   Written by LeeAnne (10/20/2008 1:17 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, But she actually has children..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

but Mary is like a child herself. She needs (or thinks she needs) tending to.

"While well, and happy, and properly attended to, she had great good humour and excellent spirits;

"So, you are come at last! I began to think I should never see you. I am so ill I can hardly speak. I have not seen a creature the whole morning!...You have had your little boys with you?"
"Yes, as long as I could bear their noise; but they are so unmanageable that they do me more harm than good. Little Charles does not mind a word I say, and Walter is growing quite as bad."

Mary does not consider her children to be "company" because they REQUIRE care; they don't GIVE care. It's terribly selfish of her.
