and yet another 'blink and you will miss it' one! In fact in P2, they had completely blown it by having everyone use first names right from the start.

I think it is very clear that however much he has tried to relegate her to 'Miss Anne Elliot' in his mind, she has remained 'Anne'. Under this stress that is the only way he can think of her.
