I Agree that Mary didn't know about Charles and Ann   Written by Tessa (10/18/2008 11:34 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ch.10: The power of silence, penned by Line
Are you new?

I can't help but agree with you about Mary not knowing that Charles first proposed to Ann. She is so particular about precedence. If her Elliot pride won't let her take up an offer of a ride in a curricle because it wasn't offered to her first, I can't imagine her pride allowing her to take over one of Ann's previous admirers.

Mary even gets jealous when Lady Russel simply mentions that Benwick is Ann's acquaintance, instead of Mary's. Even if she could delude herself into thinking that she "stole" Charles from Ann, I can't believe she wouldn't constantly harp on it.
