Different publications   Written by Tarn (10/18/2008 2:34 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Thanks, Tarn! Between you, Rae and Julie W...., penned by Line
Are you new?

Steels Navy list is exactly as JulieW shows.

I mentioned it because I kept finding excerpts from the Naval Chronicles in the newspapers, next to the announcements from the London Gazette and Lloyd's shipping lists.

When I chased it down, I discovered the editor James Stainer Clarke, was the same one that is famous for being a fan and a tireless promoter of Miss Austen's work.
It is a bit disturbing to think that he was the more popular and better remunerated writer, in her lifetime. However, he had enough taste to recognise and promote genius, even if his own abilities were to hers what mine are to Rae and JulieW's :)
