I agree   Written by Susan L (10/16/2008 10:40 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I agree Martina, penned by Jean B
Are you new?

very much he did everything that was expected of a new acquaintance. He charmed the company, spoke civilly and agreeably to all (except for that one time he spoke badly about Anne, and I characterise that as him blurting out the first thing he thought). It's also clear that the excitement of having CW around as well as the general self absorption meant that CW's lack of conversation with Anne wasn't noticed.

But why would or should CW speak to Anne? I know we would like him to, but IMHO at this stage he's still not 'over' Anne enough for breaking their engagement to do more than he is.

At this point I always think that JA gives us hope because when CW does think of Anne he shows himself to be a decent and thoughtful man:

1. noticing Anne was tired and sending her home with Admiral and Mrs Croft
2. asking whether Anne danced shen he saw her sidelined playing the pianoforte all night
3. applying Anne's many good qualities as the starting point for the qualities he wanted in a future wife.

It's those little things that tell me he's a man I'd wait and fight for.
