Perhaps,   Written by Mandy N (10/16/2008 2:29 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I don't think it was ment as amusing, penned by Susan Elizabeth
Are you new?

I wonder if JA referred to Mrs Musgrove's bulk as a contrast to her narrowness of vision about her son ?
I don't know if that makes any sense.
Trying to put it in other words; JA meant Mrs Musgrove has a right to grieve, but she is still too close to her son's memory to discern the truth of his worth.

I don't think JA meant it unkindly but Persuasion appears to be a book of personal obsessions.
