I don't think Anne is aware of CW's momentary glance and what it seemed to say. He would be the last one up the steps, wouldn't he, as a gentleman allowing the ladies to go up first? Even if Anne had dared to catch CW's eye and seen this reaction, she would revert to her emotional introspection and need to shut herself up in her room to figure it all out.
