in consequence of the missive, L&T Did the Elliot cattle actually belong to the Crofts?, penned by MarianneR
They are "interesting" themselves ;-)
What they are doing to making themselves familair with their estate: they probably know more about it now than Sir Walter ever did ;-) They are practical people and have always been interested in naval matters. Now , using their natural curiosity and intelligence ,they are making themselves familiar with running an estate, farming and husbanding farm animals.
They are simply learning to be good landholders, even though they are only tenants.
We are never given many details about the lease of Kellynch per se-for I think JA thought that was unnecessary- but it does apper that they are not just renting the house and the gardens. The Crofts are indeed renting teh whole.
Who benefited from any profits from the estate - raised from the sale of livestock and crops etc- would depend on the terms of the lease. And we are not party to such minutiae ;-) But I think proably that in return for a good income in rent , the Admirla and Mrs Crof have now taken over the whole estate and the running of it and will be profiting ( or not) from the sale of its produce.
I cant say more for spoilers sake but next week keep your eyes peeled and you may find more information on this very subject.;-)
