I suppose I was trying to say that Lady Russell was trying to look after Anne by talking her out of subjecting herself to a long engagement because of the danger to her reputation where the engagement broke down. I might also add that the anxious, wearying part might also relate to how difficult it would be for Anne to sit at home wondering whether CW was able to make enough money for the two of them to marry.
