very own navy list......"The firs that had ever been at Uppercross".

You could buy these from booksellers across the country,Marianne.They were published monthly . I daresay they had been to Crewkherne for their copy .

Interesting to note that even though they had once had a brother who was in the navy (poor Dick, under Wentworth's command) it was only the presence among them of the captain that induced them to get their own copy of the list ;-)
