of the eye contact, given the significance of this in terms of intimacy, too. It is quite interesting to think about, JulieW, had her tentative contact met with a smile of encouragement, or even shyness or intrigue, it may have been different. Instead, she saw the mirror of her own inner dread shown to her, through his kind of shock at seeing her so altered.

Given that this was the first contact of ANY kind for nearly eight years, it can't help but be loaded with emotion. A very powerful image, especially between former lovers, if that is the right word to use!
