I think Elizabeth had every reason to do sth to enhance her looks - after all she was still available on the marriage market (don´t know whether such a word exists in English ;0)). And being conceited as she was, she will have spent hours doing her toilet - don´t you think so?

Well, and Anne having no reason to hope for another proposal will probably have neglected her outward appearance. And feeling despondent all those years will have left its traces also I bet...
