Are you new?

Why did she hang on to the old vision of love and marriage when she didn't think it would show up again? I'm sure she knew of other marriages that weren't based on what we would term "love" today - is there any indication she thought they were wrong or looked down on the people involved? Did she want to stay with her father and sister the rest of her life?
