for your thoughtful responses. I like the heat in the city suggestion; it makes sense to me and JulieW I agree Anne is not wallowing but is more than a little depressed. I think your description of Anne’s life and her inability to enjoy it is spot on. I think Mandy N you make a good point about Mary being cheered by Anne but I think Anne is also cheered by helping Mary and the idea that Mary wants her company. Dear Anne, I really do feel for her. :)
