CW was 23YO and Anne was 19YO when they were engaged.   Written by JanELT (10/11/2008 11:17 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Why does he propose to Anne?, penned by Martina
Are you new?

If I've added and subtracted properly, that's what I remember their ages to be.

I think at 23YO, CW was mature enough to know he'd better be making a decent living if he wanted a wife and raise a family.

I would like to believe that he was at the cusp of success due to his character traits and connections to his BIL who undoubtedly was also rising in ranks in the Navy.

IMO, had LR not influenced her, Anne would have endured the long engagement, patiently waiting for CW to make his fortune so he could marry her properly, and putting up with whatever remarks that Sir Walter and Elizabeth might rain on her.

I like the idea you suggested that they might enjoy corresponding with each other during their separation.... had Sir Walter not blown his top (in astonishment LOL) and LR cried foul :-)
