he made his fortune, whether this would've been considered too long? I can't help dissecting this theme, though I do know it was largely sound how Lady Russell framed her opinion.

Because of my focus on Anne, and who valued her, I am trying to discern whether there was a sense of "never in a million years" rather than just an objection to the money side of things.

Was it also prejudice against the naval profession, given Sir Walter's steadfast views against it? His reaction was so extreme. Thanks in advance, JulieW. It's all very interesting to think about;-).
