I'm not sure this concern was self-delusion. Once he got a wife - would he be as bold and intrepid as when he didn't have anyone else to consider? Without that quality - especially when he was commanding his own ship - that would affect his prize-taking capacity.

I personally think it was points like that Lady Russell was able to bring up to dissuade Anne. And again (reverting to the main topic of this thread), I think LR had some valid points.
