Not enough   Written by Tarn (10/10/2008 4:51 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Well, she did..., penned by MarianneR
Are you new?

I have just gone back through what I had written and there were at least thirty unsupported assertions (So much easier to say things than to support them, especially in the wee small hours - I think I will make it a rule never to post anything after midnight).

Also, there was a lot more to the establishment of the US Navy and the causes of the War of 1812 than I have mentioned (the French were really not very helpful, for example)...but this is about Persuasion and the uses of Navy lists, so I thought it would be better to steer clear of the Emperor of Elba and any real, solid history, in the hope that Mr Roosevelts book would be a good enough source.

A lot of what I claimed could be as easily disputed as supported, but I'm pretty sure I can get all the sources of the claims I made.
I am not so sure that all my sources could be regarded as authorative - as Mr Roosvelt pointed out, there were a lot of disputable histories of this war - and since his book, there have been even more, most of which I have not even seen, let alone evaluated or cross checked against the reviews of eminent historians...and the sources are not immediately at my fingertips, but still, I am on to it now and will give you them ASAP.
