Sort of surprising   Written by CarolTS (10/9/2008 11:57 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Carefully Preserved Correspondence, penned by nan duval
Are you new?

that Dick's correspondence is so carefully preserved considering what the ON says about him! that the Musgroves had had the ill fortune of a very troublesome, hopeless son, and the good fortune to lose him before he reached his twentieth year; . . . scarcely at all regretted, (ch. 6).

One wonders if the ON's sarcasm is coming on a little strong here since someone in the family thought enough of him to save his letters!
