I agree that Anne took LR's advice because it was superior to her own. But I don't think that Anne was trying to choose between LR's friendship and CW's affections. Neither did she dump CW out of fear of opposing LR, IMHO.

I think that Anne respected LR so much that she thought very highly of LR's advice, as one would one's own mother if they had a good relationship. So when LR told her to just forget about CW, Anne took her words very seriously and began to believe that it was all true that she was better off without CW.
