So your point is that Lady Russell disapproves Mrs Clay Written by Anna Ruby (10/9/2008 1:46 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, After being widowed, she was presumably in..., penned by Delories

because of her character and not of her rank, right?

If this is correct, then I think we should agree to disagree: while I am sure Lady Russell sees all Mrs Clay's scheming and dislikes her for it and is eager to see this "friendship" interrupted, I also think it is clear that she disapproves of her the more because of Mrs Clay's social position.
