If this is correct, then I think we should agree to disagree: while I am sure Lady Russell sees all Mrs Clay's scheming and dislikes her for it and is eager to see this "friendship" interrupted, I also think it is clear that she disapproves of her the more because of Mrs Clay's social position.
I have enjoyed our debates
