I agree that LR thought Anne could do "better". Since it was customary for the eldest daughter to marry first, perhaps it wasn't obvious by then that Sir Walter would do absolutely nothing to enable Anne to socialise and meet suitable young men. I also wonder whether LR hoped that the visit to Bath would produce some likely suitors, but I guess it was much too soon after the break-up for a second attachment to be a possibility, (if it ever was).
