and I don't really understand Mrs Clay's role in the whole thing, or why she so close with Elizabeth. As Lady Russell says, she wishes Elizabeth would be kinder to her sister, rather than favouring this woman, but it appears to be a prejudice kind of thing between sisters, or something, not sure.
