Kellynch Rent   Written by Patricia P (10/8/2008 1:09 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, it is difficult, isn't it?, penned by JulieW
Are you new?

Thank you..It is a point that I have wondered on for years. The Elliots seem to be living at such an expensive rate. I have combed Deidre Le Faye's book The world of Her Novels looking for some sort of indication of what she thought their income would be but hadn't found anything. I am trying to place them financially with the families in the other books. I had always assumed that the Crofts were merely renting the house and immediate grounds because how could it pay otherwise-the property which does not support the Elliots in the manner to which they have accustomed themselves would now have to support both the Crofts and the Elliots-though living in reduced circumstances, and pay off their debts because surely the Crofts would expect some return on their rent money from the estate...maybe not?
