I couldn't figure this out either. I decided that it was either something expected, showing your respect for a loss in the family regardless of a riff in a relationship. Maybe too, others weren't aware of the riff and would wonder about their lack of respect. Other than that, it would most likely be just Elizabeth and her concern for appearances, I would think. Thanks for asking. Maybe someone it will be cleared up for us.
