Who would be interested in those lists?   Written by MarianneR (10/7/2008 3:25 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Navy List: Anne's Instrument of....., penned by JulieW
Are you new?

It´s easy to imagine why Anne had eagerly read those Navy lists but I wonder why anyone else should? Was it just because of war and people wanted to know whether one of their relatives was on a ship mentioned in the newspapers (i.e. if a ship was captured)? Or did they know vessels and admirals by name like many people today know the names of soccer teams and their players because they are fond of them?
