Navy Lists and newspapers.   Written by Mandy N (10/7/2008 11:12 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, The Navy List: Anne's Instrument of....., penned by JulieW
Are you new?

Thankyou indeed; I've often wondered how these Navy Lists appeared.
An economical way for JA to show how Anne can respond to her father's query; Admiral Croft is rear admiral of the white who fought off Cape Trafalgar. (ch. 3)

Imagine Anne's torture, she can't exchange letters with Capt. Wentworth. The Navy Lists and newspapers provided her only source of information about his career.

I can make out Capt. Frank Austen's name in the fourth column of the Post-Captains List.
Really interesting & thanks again !
